What Google has announced
- Agentic booking in Search. In a post dated 2025-08-21, Google said AI Mode was "starting to roll out today with finding restaurant reservations," "expanding soon to local service appointments and event tickets," and that "AI Mode does the legwork and links you directly to the booking page." It named partners including OpenTable, Resy, Tock, Ticketmaster, StubHub, SeatGeek and Booksy.
- Expansion to local services. In its I/O post dated 2026-05-19, Google said it is "expanding agentic booking capabilities in Search" to new tasks including local experiences and services, with "direct links to finish booking through the provider of your choice," and that for select categories such as home repair, beauty and pet care, users can "ask Google to call businesses on your behalf."
- AI calls when the information is missing. Google's Search help page says that when businesses have limited information online, "Google can make calls on your behalf," for example to ask about the earliest available appointment.
These are Google's own descriptions of its products, not independent measurements. HelpWin has not measured how often assistants book local businesses, and this page does not estimate it.
What this means for a small service business
The pattern in all three announcements is the same: the assistant gathers options and then hands the customer to a booking page. It does not replace your booking tool. It needs one to point at. When there is no booking page, Google's fallback is a phone call, which reaches you only during the hours you answer.
In HelpWin's Toledo study, 859 of 1,663 established business websites that loaded (52%) showed no booking path on the homepage, and 989 of 4,426 Google listings (22%) list no website at all. Those businesses give an assistant nothing to link to. (Full study.)
What a site needs so an assistant, or a person, can find a booking path
- A booking link on the homepage, as a normal link. The crawler in our study and the Book Check both read raw HTML without running JavaScript, and an assistant's crawler may do the same. A widget that appears only after scripts run can be invisible to them, so add a plain "Book online" link to your booking page as well.
- A booking link on your Google Business Profile. It is the link Google's own surfaces can show next to your listing. See how to add one.
- Your services, prices or price ranges, and hours, written as text. An assistant asked "who can mow my lawn this week" can only use what it can read. When it cannot find availability, Google's help says it may call instead.
- A tap-to-call phone link for the customers and calls that will always come.
- The same name, address and phone on the website and the profile, so the two are clearly the same business.
The free Book Check tests the first and fourth items on your homepage, plus a Google Maps link and basic phone setup. What it tests and why.
What we do not know
- How often assistants actually complete or hand off bookings for local service businesses. We have not measured it, and we have not found an independent measurement we would cite.
- Which booking tools each assistant can read. Google names its partners for some categories; it does not publish a full list.
- How assistants treat a business that answers only by phone. Google's help describes AI calls; it does not say how those results are ranked.
HelpWin's Book Button is launching soon as one way to add a booking path to the site you already have. A plain link to any booking page does the most important part today.
Questions
Can Google's AI book an appointment with my business?
Google has announced agentic booking in Search that finds availability across booking platforms and websites and links the user to the booking page to finish. It started with restaurant reservations and Google has said it is expanding to local services. The user still completes the booking on the provider's page.
Will Google's AI call my business?
It can. Google's help page says that when a business has limited information online, Google can make calls on the user's behalf, for example to ask about the earliest available appointment. Google's help links to Business Profile guidance on managing these automated calls.
What is the simplest way to make my business bookable by an assistant?
Put a plain booking link on your homepage that works without JavaScript, and add the same link to your Google Business Profile as a booking link.
